Consumption’s revolution

A few years ago, invitations from agencies and associations came to my email which informed about to relocate my small production of my company.
That began my fear. Community Government, organizations like Icex or Chambers of Commerce, permanently organized business meetings where Spanish businessmen to invest in other countries were invited. At that moment I wondered for the reason that would have to invest in another country and not in mine. Why could not I go to a market with the noble goal of exporting, selling, carrying my work and of mine to different markets?

Enormous mistake of different politicians which led us to a Europe without future. Politicians of all signs, both Central and Communities Governments. And even also the mistake of businessmen who proclaim from the rooftops that the key for  a successful internationalization is to buy in low-cost countries, causing the production outside of our borders. For many of them, the most important thing is to go out to manufacture.

We must be clear. We should and must know where we are going if we keep buying everything is produced in low cost countries, this is what we should transmit: a country like Spain remains if we live from we manufacture. It must be clear that buying a product which is cheaper does not mean you have purchased better. With all this, the only way out of this situation is in us. We should be very careful about what we buy and know where it comes from.

Some time ago I saw during my stay in Buenos Aires, as the Government demanded the consumption of products from its own country. Then I thought it was necessary for such protection to its own economy. This made me think. To begin to solve our problems, we should make our companies, which manufacture in Spain, grow and invest in R&D+i, but first of all and essential they must sell. As a consumer, businessman and entrepreneur, I make a petition of supporting our small, but strong industry, if we can survive this situation with aggressive competitors with low costs and the tremendous crisis that we live, we will be able to re-do a respected country not only for its sunshine, but by industries which communicate an excellent image abroad. In 2012 the new Industrial Revolution will start in Spain, but in the hands of a citizen committed to the products manufactured in the country and demanding with the rulers to protect our economy.

Our basic concept of "Energy Efficiency" also requires an adjustment

In these hard in the social, political and business we cannot forget that we must "adjust" also our entire way of life, our way of thinking and our way of debate about the energetic.

Undoubtedly, the new ways of power generation have entered the sector strongly, becoming an important part of our generation, perhaps with a very high economic cost, but with an important future performance in respecting the environment and sustainability of the planet. Our future generations will appreciate this common policy. But it is true that we cannot call this sector Energy Efficiency.

When we talk about alternative energies, they are just that. The concept "Energy Efficiency" should be used very conveniently and considered.

It is as important generating clean energy as to properly use the available energy.

In my opinion, two factors are essential for energy efficiency:
-         Awareness of "no use" as the best way of energy saving and efficiency.
-         Use of the available energy with improved conditions in the facilities, improvement of the average power factor in the country and reduction of harmonics level in the facilities.

About first item, our World and European Champions are who through a campaign of IDEA, remind of consumers that the best saving is the non-consumption. These campaigns take effect in the medium and long term and I hope that young people gets the message from their stars.

On the second item, we are the market players who have a lot to do. The central and regional governments, electricity companies and consumers themselves should consider investments in order to upgrade facilities, and thereby obtain saving of over 25% of the losses caused by different factors.

Installation of Automatic Capacitor Banks has been for the latest 30 years in our country a good method for Energy Efficiency, and it should remain, as it is a product with a huge future.

Therefore, we must actively contribute so that the power factor of facilities continue to improve; our company operates in 25 countries, and we are working with governments around the world in order to implement energy saving projects, we have always been characterized for contributing with relevant aspects to market power factor correction such as management of an integrated product and service as well as a constant work of R&D+i.

For our company, the care and protection of the environment have always been one of our key principles. So that we help companies to reduce significant amounts of CO2 and also increase the saving. Aener Energia provides customers with knowledge and tools to optimal the management of their energy resources. This efficient use is based in less energy requirement and, therefore, in a more rational use of natural resources of the planet.

Perhaps a new "Management Plan Demand", like it was introduced in our country in the 90s, would lead our electrical system to a new impulse in terms of better use of current resources.

If we invest in maintaining and improving everything we have, we will achieve great things.

Some pieces of advices from Aener Energia about reactive energy

- It is necessary to compensate the reactive power, as a variation of this one makes equipments such as generators and/or transformers that supply to the facility, work at a greater rate than necessary. Also, the harder penalties from the government make this compensation involves direct saving in electric bills.

- Motors and transformers are the biggest consumers of reactive power. It is due to equipments with windings are used reactive power to maintain the magnetic fields they need to perform their jobs.

- Capacitors compensate reactive power. In big motors and transformers are installed parallel capacitors, connected jointly, so that when they work, they do so with the support of the capacitor.

There is not sometimes a concrete loading which causes the problem, but it is the sum of all (there is not to compensate load by load due to the high cost of the installation).

Aener Energia: the Spanish option in view of the energy crisis in Venezuela

-          Venezuela has experienced a big deficit of generation and energy management attributed to several factors, one of which generated by extensive drought in the reservoir of Hydroelectric "Simon Bolivar" due to climatic phenomenon "El Niño".
-         Within the sector of Power Factor Correction, Uninterruptible Power Supplies and Voltage Stabilizers, Aener Energia is a reference in Europe, and we are one of the few Spanish companies, internationally recognized in this field.

Various measures were taken in Venezuela to avoid the energy crisis which began in 2009. One of the most controversial was the norm for the rationing of electricity in most of the country. In 2010 this measure was cancelled due to the recovery of the reservoirs, the most important: the reservoir named Guri, the largest in Venezuela, for its size and volume of stored water, is the second biggest lake system in the country and it is only exceeded. The Guri’s reservoir or lake is located in Bolivar State, where the Hydroelectric "Simon Bolivar" is running which provides 70% of electricity to Venezuelan territory.
According to the current government, the irresponsible use of the upper classes of the population has a negative impact on the crisis and referred to poor administrative and infrastructure of reservoirs by previous governments. On the other hand, the opposition blames the government for failing to make the investments needed to meet the demands of the country's electricity consumption and electricity infrastructure neglect.

Measures addressed

The party in power during 2010 proposed the installation of power plants with a generating capacity of 6000 megawatts (MW). A rationing plan in Caracas was implemented, which was cancelled after several protests which led to the departure of the then Minister of Electric Power. Angel Rodriguez, who was replaced by Ali Rodriguez Araque, besides this, national companies from private sector were ordered to reduce their electricity consumption, at least 20%.

In the rest of Venezuela, rationing systems were implemented and, even before Easter of 2010, electricity supply was cut off three hours during 3 or 4 days, it is meant that citizens outside Caracas experienced an electric interruption service between 9 to 12 hours per week.
Consequently, the Venezuelan government through the Ministry of Popular Power for Electric Power decreed the resolution published on June 10, 2011 in the Official Gazette of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The main considerations that the decree emphasizes are:

-          In relation to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the power electric consumption of the population in Venezuela is higher than the Latin American average, indicating a pattern of inefficient consumption.
-          The national energy demand has experienced in recent years excessive growth much higher than the real power requirements, with an increase of over 7%.
-         From the moment measures for energy saving implemented in 2010 stopped, there has been an excessive rise in electricity consumption, which do requires to the Government to establish strategies and guidelines which promote the efficient use of electricity in areas where the National Electricity Corporation is working (CORPOELEC).

So the decree resolves as follows:

-         Promote the improvement of the power factor in industrial consumers: commercial and official ones with loads greater or equal than two hundred kilovolt ampere (200KVA) to reduce the voltage drops and increased the availability of power in the grid.
-         Users of industrial, commercial and official consumers with loads higher than two hundred kilovolt ampere (2000KVA) who do not keep on a power factor higher or equal than 0,9 will be subject to a surcharge in their electric bills.
-         Legal persons of private sector who are exceeding an assigned contracted assigned demand of one megavolt ampere (1 MVA) must take action to keep on a reduction of at least ten percent (10%).
-         Legal persons of private sector, with loads of two hundred kilovolt amperes (200KVA) and one megavolt ampere (1MVA), must  take actions to keep on a reduction of at least ten percent (10%).
-         Some public sector agencies are exempt from complying
-         Failure consecutive and repeated shall result in the suspension of electricity.

Against these measures, the president of the National Association of Users and Consumers (Anauco), Roberto Leon Parilli, has declared to the Organization of American States (OAS), "The supply of electricity in Venezuela is poor since no relevant investments have been made and that the state punishes all users of the national territory with fines, restrictions despite the poor service”

In his statements the Anauco’s President has confirmed having received complaints from people who reported damage to your appliances for energy drops and urged the national government to take into account private groups in order to work together.

Assistance to Venezuelan companies to reduce energy costs

Given this situation, it is important to find solutions to the energy problem and tools which help the assurance of power supply and energy saving efficiently.
